MURALS
Fun fact: my mural journey started at 15 when I volunteered with Mark Rocky Lewis at The Art & Soul Traders in Portsmouth (my hometown), a community arts initiative that showed me how art could transform a space and the people in it. Enjoy some photos of a very awkward teenage me, paintbrush in hand, absolutely loving it. That experience planted the seed for everything you see on this page!
One of my first experiences was helping out on The Strand Mural in Southsea, UK. The Strand covers an entire face of a large building and depicts a stylised map of Portsea Island, it's the only continuously updated mural in the UK, and it's been evolving since 1998. Getting to be even a tiny part of that as a teenage volunteer showed me what art could really do for a community.
Around the same time, I also helped paint the fence of Portsmouth Arts Lodge as part of a campaign to save it from closure. Art as protest. Art as power.
